Poppy Playtime in the browser: what it is and how it plays

Poppy Playtime is Mob Entertainment's horror series set in the abandoned Playtime Co. toy factory, where Huggy Wuggy first stalked players in 2021. It is sold for PC, consoles and phones, and there is no official browser version. What plays on this site is the fan-made Unity game that browser pages have run under the name "Poppy Playtime" for years — the same one this domain used to frame from a GitHub page that has since disappeared. It is now served from poppysplaytime.org itself.

It is honest to say what kind of game it is: a house escape in the style of Granny, dressed in Huggy Wuggy art. The menu shows Huggy waving from a dark hallway; when PART 1 begins you wake on a bed in a brick-walled room, and the first thing you see is Huggy crouched in the doorway. The house belongs to a pair of crazy old people — the game calls them the olds, a granny and a grandpa — and a dog guards the yard.

Getting out means working through a chain of locks. The game's own hints spell it out: the car needs its wheels, petrol and keys; the boat needs a paddle; and the bridge is the third ending the game lists. Doors are not all simple either — one has to be de-energized by following the wires. Along the way a crowbar breaks the safe, a saw cuts through a board, nails and a board fix a broken floor, and two parts of a stun gun become a weapon once you assemble them on the workbench. PART 2 carries the story on after the escape, towards the small town ahead.

How to get out alive

  1. Read every hint: Locked things tell you what they want: "You need a crowbar", "You need petrol", "Need a paddle". Those lines are your checklist.
  2. Hide before they see you: Cabinets only work if the olds did not watch you climb in. Break line of sight first, then click the cabinet door.
  3. Pick one escape: Car, boat and bridge each need different parts. Commit to one route per run instead of carrying half of everything.
  4. Build the stun gun early: Find both parts, assemble them on the workbench and you can knock a pursuer out for a short time when it goes wrong.
  5. Meat for the dog: The dog will not let you past on its own. Give it meat and use the time while it eats.
  6. Learn on Ghost or Easy: Ghost makes you invisible, Easy slows granny and grandpa right down. Map the house there, then go Classic.

Key features

  • Three ways out: Escape by car, by boat or over the bridge — each needs its own set of parts.
  • Four modes: Ghost (invisible), Easy (the olds are very slow), Classic, and Heavy (faster olds, one attempt).
  • Two parts: PART 1 is the house; PART 2 follows you out towards the small town.
  • Tools and a stun gun: Crowbar, saw, screwdriver, nails, knife and a stun gun you assemble from two parts.
  • Safe zones: Some rooms are marked safe: granny and grandpa cannot follow you in.
  • Browser only: Unity WebGL served from this site — no download, plays on a Chromebook.

Frequently asked questions

Is Poppy Playtime unblocked at school?

The game runs in an ordinary browser tab from poppysplaytime.org with nothing to install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks. Mob Entertainment's Poppy Playtime itself has no browser version; this is a fan-made game. If a network filter blocks this site, only that network's administrator can change it.

Is this the real Poppy Playtime?

No. Poppy Playtime by Mob Entertainment is sold for PC, consoles and phones and has no browser version. The game here is a fan-made Unity escape game that browser sites have run under the Poppy Playtime name: Huggy Wuggy art on a Granny-style house escape.

How do you play it?

Press START, pick a mode, press START again and choose PART 1. Drag the joystick at the bottom left to walk, drag anywhere else to look, and click doors and items to use them. Hide by clicking a cabinet door.

How do you escape?

Three ways: repair the car (wheels, petrol and keys), take the boat (you need a paddle), or get over the bridge. The game tells you what is missing when you try.

What do the modes do?

Ghost makes you invisible, Easy makes granny and grandpa very slow, Classic is the normal game, and Heavy makes them faster and gives you only one attempt.

Why does the screen say PART 1 for a while?

That card shows while the level loads. On a slow Chromebook it can take a little while the first time; after that the game files are cached.

Does it work on a Chromebook?

Yes. It runs in the browser tab with a mouse or a touchscreen. The first visit downloads about 53 MB of game files once.
